Our Team Attends RiTE Project Kick-off Meeting in Naples, Italy

A team from Busitema University, led by Dr. Edwin Kamalha, participated in the RiTE Project kick-off meeting held in Naples, Italy, from March 17th to 21st, 2025. The meeting, hosted by Cosvitec Università & Impresa, brought together key stakeholders from Africa and Europe to discuss the project's objectives, activities, and implementation strategies. Busitema University sent a delegation of two members, including Mrs. Peace Karungi Balala, the university's communication officer.
The Refugee Inclusive Technical Education (RiTE) project aims to provide non-formal education opportunities for refugees in Kampala, Arua, and Adjumani districts of Uganda. The project focuses on recognizing prior learning, facilitating access and enrollment, and addressing the educational and skills gaps among refugee communities.
The meeting was attended by African representatives from YMCA, AFFCAD, USSIA, and Vocax, alongside European partners from Cosvitec Università & Impresa, IVAIGO, and the Universite of Alicante.
Key discussions included: Presentation of the RiTE Project – covering its main objectives, planned activities, and expected impact. Overview of Work Packages & Key Deliverables – highlighting the roles and responsibilities of different partners.
Busitema University’s Role – leading desk research, needs assessment, and gap analysis of refugee communities in Uganda. The university will also handle access and enrollment support to recognize prior learning and skills of refugees.
Partners also had discussions on the Communication & Dissemination Strategy which will ensure effective outreach and stakeholder engagement. Project Timelines to finalize and agree on key milestones for implementation.
The kickoff meeting was highly productive, setting a strong foundation for collaboration and successful execution of the RiTE project. With Busitema University as the lead partner, this initiative is expected to create meaningful educational pathways for refugees, fostering their integration and empowerment within Ugandan communities
