Busitema University Tops Group D in Strong Showing at National Corporate Tournament in Kabale
26 October 2026
Busitema University put up an impressive performance at the Uganda National Corporates Tournament (UNCT) Western Edition, finishing top of Group D with 11 points before bowing out in the Round of 16 following a penalty shootout defeat to TotalEnergies Mbale.
The two-day tournament, held from 24 to 25 October 2026 in Kabale District, brought together corporate teams from different organisations to compete, interact and strengthen professional relationships through sports. Hosted by Rugarama Hospital Corporate Club, the Western Edition also promoted environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

Reflecting on the team's performance, Deputy Chief Sports Officer Dr. Agnes Baluka Masajja described the tournament as a rewarding experience and one of Busitema University's best outings in recent editions. She expressed satisfaction with the team's qualification for the Round of 16, noting that the experience had provided valuable lessons to guide preparations for future competitions.
Team Captain Dr. Edwin Kamalha also welcomed the team's performance, observing that the players had demonstrated considerable improvement compared to previous editions. He commended their commitment throughout the competition and appreciated the contributions of the coaches and support team, whose collective efforts helped the University deliver a competitive performance. Dr. Kamalha further thanked University Management for its continued support and for facilitating the team's participation.
The Kabale tournament marked another step in Busitema University's growing involvement in corporate sports, following earlier engagements in Pallisa, Kitgum and Mbale. These competitions have provided opportunities for staff from different campuses and departments to interact outside their usual work environments while representing the University at regional and national sporting events.
The team's participation followed its official flag-off by Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Waako on 21 October 2026, during which he encouraged the players to compete with determination and discipline. The University's participation in corporate tournaments also aligns with its Games and Sports Policy and Strategic Plan, which promote staff well-being, institutional visibility and partnerships with other organisations.

With another corporate tournament planned for Kampala in December, the team hopes to build on the experience gained in Kabale. Busitema University has also expressed interest in hosting a future regional edition of the tournament as it seeks to expand its involvement in corporate sports.
