Busitema University’s chess team put up a strong performance at the 12th All-Africa University Games in Cairo, Egypt, finishing fourth in the men’s pairing category. The chess tournament was held on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Ain Shams University, where university teams from across Africa competed in the Rapid 10+5 format in singles and pairing categories.

Busitema fielded both a women’s and men’s team in the competition. Nantale Cynthia Tracy and Warom Dickline represented the University in the women’s singles and pairing categories, while Rubangakene Ceaser and Byawaka Alvin Herbert competed in the corresponding men’s categories.

The men’s team secured fourth place with nine points in the pairing category, finishing among 19 universities that took part in the tournament. Both teams put up a spirited fight throughout the competition, as Busitema’s players took on opponents from universities across the continent. The tournament provided
the students with an opportunity to test their skills against strong competition while gaining valuable experience on the continental stage.

The performance adds to Busitema University’s participation in the 12th All Africa University Games, where its student athletes are representing the University in several sporting disciplines. The Games, organised by the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), are taking place in Cairo from September 8 to 16, bringing together university athletes from across Africa.

For Busitema, the chess team’s fourth place finish marks a commendable showing in a highly competitive field and contributes to the University’s growing presence in university sports beyond Uganda.
