Busitema University’s Academic Conference on Enhancing the Research Quality of Postgraduate Students
The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) in collaboration with the Directorate of Graduate School, Research and Innovations at Busitema University organized a two-day conference themed “Enhancement of Postgraduate Students’ High-Quality Research Papers, Theses and Dissertations” at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Representing the Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Waako, was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Professor Saphina Biira. In her speech, Professor Biira emphasized that the conference’s goal was to equip post graduate students with practical skills and valuable insights to elevate the quality of their research.
Presided over by Dr. Eryenyu Charles, the Director of the Directorate of Quality Assurance, the conference attracted a significant number of postgraduate students and esteemed professors from various disciplines and faculties of the University who guided the students through essential aspects of academic writing and research. These sessions covered an array of topics,including the structure of Manuscripts with a focus on crafting compelling Titles, Introduction and Literature Reviews. The discussion also delved into discipline-specific methodologies, strategies for enhancing clarity in writing, proper referencing techniques to avoid plagiarism and the critical process of selecting the appropriate journals for publication.
Furthermore, the conference provided an in-depth understanding of the peer review process and offered strategies for effectively responding to reviewers’ feedback. Beyond theoretical discussions, the event featured interactive segments, including discussions, hands-on writing sessions, and assignments. These activities allowed students to engage directly with a diverse group of academic professionals fostering a rich learning environment.
