Busitema University has officially admitted its new class of first-year students following a series of admission ceremonies held between 1st and 10th October 2025 across all its seven campuses.

The events, conducted per faculty, marked the formal entry of nearly 6,500 students into the Busitema community for the 2025/2026 academic year. Each campus hosted its own colourful ceremony attended by university officials and the new students eager to begin their academic journey.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Waako, led the admission ceremonies, personally traversing all the campuses to preside over the sessions. Before the official admission, the Academic Registrar, Dr. Lillian Gimunguni, guided the new students through the Students’ Oath, committing them to uphold the institution’s values of discipline, honesty, and respect.

In his address, Professor Waako extended a warm welcome to the incoming students and commended them for choosing Busitema University as their academic home. “Thank you for making Busitema your university of choice,” he said. “The University will nurture you into responsible citizens of this country while ensuring that you excel academically.”

He encouraged students to embrace peace, integrity, and decency, both within and beyond the campus environment. “Be agents of peace, stability, and integrity in society,” the Vice Chancellor emphasised. “Distinguish decent from indecent and always choose the right path.”

Highlighting the importance of focus and discipline, Professor Waako advised students to set clear academic targets and remain committed to achieving them. He reminded them that class attendance remains a key academic requirement, with all learning sessions being compulsory and an 80 percent attendance threshold in place.

The Vice Chancellor also reiterated Busitema University’s ongoing transition to Competency-Based Education (CBE), which places students at the centre of the learning process. He encouraged them to take charge of their education, interact with different teaching methods, and develop lifelong learning skills. “Competency-Based Education means you take responsibility for your own learning,” he said. “Interact with your lecturers, use available learning resources, and always be curious.”

Professor Waako urged students to take advantage of the university library and its extensive digital resources, as well as to visit the Busitema University website regularly for academic guidelines and policy updates.

He also emphasised the need for self-control and responsible behaviour, warning students against actions that could compromise their academic progress or personal reputation. “Discipline is key,” he said firmly. “Remain focused and determined. Exercise self-control to avoid getting into trouble.”

Reflecting on the university’s multi-campus structure, the Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to use it as an opportunity to interact, share experiences, and build friendships across diverse cultures.“The multi-campus nature of Busitema University promotes socialisation and broadens your worldview. Use this opportunity to learn from one another,” he added.

As the ceremonies concluded across all campuses, the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and anticipation. The 2025 cohort now embarks on a new academic chapter, ready to learn, grow, and contribute positively to both the university and the nation.
