Busitema University warmly welcomed representatives from Stanbic Bank to a meeting aimed at strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two entities. Representing the Vice Chancellor, Professor Saphina Biira who chaired the meeting expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the bank for its invaluable support of various university initiatives. Notably, the bank has provided scholarships to students for skills training programs at the university and is sponsoring several other university projects including a forestry project that is yet to kick off. Prof. Saphiina further noted that the partnership between Busitema University and Stanbic Bank had yielded numerous benefits, including the successful execution of several conferences and projects. The financial support provided by the bank has been instrumental in facilitating these initiatives, enabling the university to host events such as the Careers Fair, Inter-University East African Competitions, and research conferences. These collaborations have not only enhanced the university's academic and research endeavors but also demonstrated the bank's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

On the other hand, Mr. Tunde Thorpe, (Head of Transaction Banking at Stanbic Bank) who led the bank's delegation, acknowledged the university's support for the bank's services, particularly in terms of loans extended to staff members. He also highlighted the substantial grant portfolio that Busitema University maintains with Stanbic Bank and encouraged the university to explore personal and private banking services. Additionally, Mr. Tunde emphasized the benefits of corporate banking, inviting the university to leverage this aspect of the bank's offerings to further enhance its financial management and operations.

The meeting served as a platform for both parties to discuss ways to further strengthen their collaboration. One of the potential avenues for future collaboration of the entities is the third phase of the skills training program, which has been a resounding success in its previous iterations. Busitema University has officially renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Health Sciences, Jinja (IIHS), reinforcing their collaborative commitment to advancing health education and community development. The MoU was signed by Prof. Paul Waako on behalf of Busitema University and Prof. Wilton S. Kezala on behalf of IIHS.

This MoU outlines three key objectives. Firstly, it seeks to enable the two institutions to increase the number of health professional graduates in Uganda, a vital step in addressing the country’s growing healthcare needs. Secondly, the agreement aims to improve the quality and scope of training and research conducted at the International Institute of Health Sciences. Thirdly, it is designed to foster institutional synergies that will enable both institutions to maximize their impact on the communities they serve, especially those in close proximity to the campuses.

This partnership also supports joint training programs, particularly the Bachelor of Medical Education and the Bachelor of Nursing Completion program both of which have been approved by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). These programs are expected to not only broaden academic opportunities for students but also contribute to a stronger, more resilient healthcare workforce in the country.

The University delegation was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Waako, accompanied by other top management officials namely Prof. Saphina Biira (Deputy Vice Chancellor), Dr. Kiwuuwa Fredrick Lugya (University Librarian) and Dr. Muweesi Charles (Director, Institutional Advancement). This renewed collaboration marks an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare training and service delivery in Uganda, reinforcing the shared commitment of both institutions to academic excellence and community development.
