The Busitema University Rugby team is among the teams selected to participate in the King of Africa University Rugby tournament to be held in Nairobi from 4th to 6th October. The team was met by The Vice Chancellor and other top managers in a flag off ceremony held at Main campus on Thursday, 2nd October,2025 at main campus. The Busitema Boons will face off against other African University teams.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Waako addressed the rugby team members prior to their journey to Nairobi for the games. He commended the team on their victories in recent previous games they participated in on a National level held in Jinja where they returned with an accolade. Other top managers present for the flag off ceremony included; The Dean of Students, University Secretary and The Academic Registrar.

In relation to the upcoming Inter- University games where Busitema University is meant to face off against teams from across the continent, the stakes have been raised higher because the Busitema Boons will be going against teams from across the continent.
“We are in full support of sports as Busitema University and are waiting for the Boons to “bite” during the games in Nairobi” stated the Vice Chancellor envoking cheers from the Busitema Boons. He also highlighted on the fact that the University intends to implement sports into the curriculum in the near future. This will be through creating a requirement for every student to participate in at least a sport or two before graduation.

The University Sports Officer, Dr. Agnes. M. Baluka thanked top management for their support towards the sports department of the University. She stated that the University teams have able players expressing trust in their ability to deliver victory during these games. 
The Busitema Boons staged a physical demonstration before top management showcasing how they intend to “bite” the other University teams during the games. This sparked excitement amongst the top managers and other onlookers present. This display of confidence is as a result of the rigorous trainings held by the Busitema University team in preparation for events of this caliber. 
This particular competition is different because the Busitema Boons will be squaring off against teams from other African Universities across the continent, a major leap for the University rugby team representing Busitema University on a continental level.

The brief ceremony was closed by The Vice Chancellor who expressed confidence in the University team wishing them victory as they venture to participate. The Busitema Boons waved the University flag as a gesture of impending victory before boarding the University bus to embark on their journey to Nairobi for the King of Africa University Rugby tournament.
