Busitema University is taking part in the 10th Annual Deans of Students and 18th Guild Leaders’ Conference 2026, bringing its student leadership into a national conversation on student welfare, leadership, mental wellbeing and safer university environments.

The conference, organised by the Uganda Deans of Students Forum, is being hosted by Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara from 14 to 18 September 2026. It has brought together guild leaders, deans of students and other higher education stakeholders from institutions across the country.

Busitema University is represented by the Guild President, Vice Guild President, Finance Minister and Ms Namwagwe Justine, Acting Dean of Students and Senior Warden at Nagongera Campus.

This year’s conference is being held under the theme, “Building Healthy Minds, Strong Leaders and Safe Campuses,” placing attention on the conditions students need to learn, lead and participate fully in university life.

Discussions are focusing on campus safety in higher education, advancing student welfare, health and mental wellbeing, leadership excellence, and the role of sports in students’ holistic development.

These areas speak directly to some of the everyday responsibilities carried by guild leaders and university administrators. Student leadership goes beyond representing concerns to management. It also involves helping build an environment where students feel supported, safe and able to participate meaningfully in university life.

Participation gives the Busitema University delegation an opportunity to exchange experiences with leaders from other institutions, learn from approaches being used elsewhere and contribute to discussions on challenges affecting students across Uganda’s higher education sector.

The conference also creates space for student leaders and university administrators to strengthen working relationships, build networks and explore practical approaches to student wellbeing, leadership development and campus safety.

The discussions in Mbarara give the Busitema delegation a chance to compare how universities are handling issues such as student welfare, campus safety, mental wellbeing and leadership. What they take back to Busitema will matter most if those conversations lead to practical improvements in how students are supported and represented across the University.
